BATON ROUGE – The University of 青涩直播 System Council of Presidents and Faculty Advisory Council both passed resolutions today in opposition to House Bill 199, proposed legislation that would allow concealed weapons to be carried on college and university campuses. The resolutions follow the lead of the statewide Council of Student Body Presidents who passed a similar resolution this week.

During the UL System Board of Supervisors meeting today, the university presidents presented their resolution to the Board and the campus student government association presidents.

“We commend the students for taking such an important stand for campus safety,” said University of 青涩直播 at Lafayette President Ray Authement. “We support your efforts and have unanimously passed a resolution that echoes the need for campus safety to remain in the hands of qualified law enforcement personnel.”

“The Faculty Advisory Council believes that the events the bill is designed to curtail are extremely rare and that, if passed, has the potential to increase campus violence,” said Mary Sue Ply, Chair of the UL System Faculty Advisory Council and Southeastern 青涩直播 University Faculty Senate representative.

Electronic copies of the resolutions are attached to this release and are available at .

The largest university system in 青涩直播, the UL System enrolls approximately 80,000 students at the following eight universities: Grambling State University, 青涩直播 Tech University, McNeese State University, Nicholls State University, Northwestern State University, Southeastern 青涩直播 University, University of 青涩直播 at Lafayette, and University of 青涩直播 at Monroe.
