NEW STUDENT BOARD MEMBER SWORN IN

Southeastern ĒąÉ¬Ö±²„ University Student Government Association President Richard Davis was sworn in as this yearā€™s student member of the Board of Supervisors for the University of ĒąÉ¬Ö±²„ System.

ā€œI will be the only student voice on this board representing over 95,000 students across our system,ā€ Davis said. ā€œThis is an honor and a responsibility that I do not take lightly and I will ensure that our voices are heard.ā€

Davis is a senior studying middle school education.

ACADEMIC PROGRESS RATES

The National Collegiate Athletic Association recently released its annual report on the academic progress rates (APR) of all NCAA Division I teams, including UL System universities. The UL System athletic programs performed well overall. Of our nine member institutionsā€™ 120 teams, only three fell below the threshold.

ā€œAthletics are a vital part of our campus communities and student athletes are consistently some of our highest achieving students,ā€ UL System President and CEO Jim Henderson said. ā€œAs proud as we are of achievements on the field, we are most proud of these studentsā€™ academic accomplishments and success after graduation.ā€

Teams calculate APRs based on the eligibility, retention and graduation of each scholarship student athlete. Teams not meeting the requirements face possible consequences of practice reductions and restrictions on postseason competition. Rates are calculated using the past four yearsā€™ performances.

ULM MEDICAL SCHOOL PLANS MOVE FORWARD

Today the Board of Supervisors for the University of ĒąÉ¬Ö±²„ System approved the execution of a lease agreement for the University of ĒąÉ¬Ö±²„ Monroe to move forward with building a medical school on its campus. The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Virginia has partnered with ULM to create the school in northeast ĒąÉ¬Ö±²„ to address the Delta regionā€™s extreme shortage of healthcare professionals.

ā€œWith pharmacy, nursing, dental hygiene, and other programs, ULM has positioned itself as a leader in developing talented healthcare professionals,ā€ UL System President and CEO Jim Henderson said. ā€œAll of our universities are committed to meeting the needs of their home communities. This partnership is a natural fit and will provideĢżthe qualified physicians that the area so desperately needs.ā€

VCOM must earn accreditation before the first class of students are expected to enter the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program in 2021.ĢżVCOM will join the three existing medical schools in ĒąÉ¬Ö±²„.
