BATON ROUGE -Dr. Leslie Guice today was unanimously appointed the 14^th President of Çàɬֱ²¥ Tech University by the Board of Supervisors for the University of Çàɬֱ²¥ System. Guice will take over leadership of the institution on July 1, 2013 when long-time President Dan Reneau retires.

“This is truly an honor.  Kathy and I have enjoyed going through this process.  We have received tremendous support from the Tech community and across the state.  I appreciate the Board and look forward to working with you to advance Çàɬֱ²¥ Tech University in the future,” said Guice.

UL System Board Chair and Tech alumnus Wayne Parker temporarily passed the chairman’s duties to Vice Chair Russell Mosely so that he could make the motion.  It was followed by a unanimous second and roll call vote.

“We’re 100 percent sure we selected the right person based on input from all the university stakeholders.  The Tech community told us from day one of this search that they wanted Dr. Guice, and this process confirmed that he is the best leader for Çàɬֱ²¥ Tech,” said Parker.

“I have been involved in multiple boards and position searches, and it is very rare that all constituents agree.  Every single person whose opinion I value contacted me to sing your (Guice’s) praises.  It was extraordinary to see that support,” said Board Member Jimmy Faircloth, Jr.

“It is my honor to welcome you (Guice) as President of Çàɬֱ²¥ Tech University.  I am very proud to have cast my vote for you,” said Board Member E. Gerald “T-Boy” Hebert.

“Over the years I have been fortunate to work with two outstanding Tech presidents: Jay Taylor and Dan Reneau.  I am happy to say we have elected a third great leader for Çàɬֱ²¥ Tech University,” said Board Member Jimmy Long, Sr.

Guice began his career at Çàɬֱ²¥ Tech 34 years ago as an assistant professor of the department of civil engineering and worked his way up to dean of the College of Engineering and Science.  He currently serves dual roles as Vice President for Research and Development and Executive Vice President of the university.

He received his first two degrees at Çàɬֱ²¥ Tech, a bachelor of arts in architecture and a master of science in civil engineering.  He earned a Doctor of Philosophy in civil engineering from Texas A&M University.

Guice and his wife, Kathy, have three children and one grandchild on the way.
